WMT is a recently established (2000) small business venture. The goal of WMT Ltd has been to develop commercial products from research activities from within Warwick Manufacturing Group a leading research institute at the University of Warwick. The company operates its offices at Warwick University Science Park, however it's major strengths lies in it's strong links with WMG a research institute with many years of experience in polymer processing. Specifically WMT conducts most of it's R&D operations at the Advanced Technology Centre (ATC).

Dr Gordon Smith
Managing Director at WMT

Dr Gordon Smith heads WMG's Materials Group, which comprises 30 staff plus PhD students. He is a chemist who specialises in research on material processing and product usage with emphasis on the application of advanced materials in high volume industries. He has developed many novel processes, which have been patented, in the field of recycled thermoplastic materials, the performance characterisation of thermoplastic composite structures, the adhesive bonding of thermoplastics, thermal stress analysis and three dimensional pultruded composites. Gordon has strong links to Government and professional bodies and is Co-director of Faraday Plastics, the national research, knowledge and training initiative for the plastics industry, its suppliers and users.

David Head
Sales and Marketing Director at WMT

David has extensive experience in the plastics industry, both in the UK and abroad. David graduated from the South Bank Polytechnic in Polymer Engineering and started his career in the plastics industry by joining Metal Box in 1964. Shortly after, moved to Gillett (Corporate Engineering), working as project manager responsible for setting up turnkey projects world-wide. Rui graduated in 1996 from the School of Engineering at the University of Minho (Portugal) in Polymer Engineering. He went on to join the Warwick Manufacturing Group’s Advanced Technology Centre at Warwick University (UK), as a Research Fellow. Since then he has been involved in R&D activities within the Materials & Processing Group. His main interests are focused on the applied academic research of non-conventional moulding processes their industrial application and process simulation using commercial software. He as been specializing in Fluid Assisted Moulding Technologies, particularly in gas-assisted injection moulding. Magalhaes is responsible for the development of a novel gas-assisted injection moulding process- KoolGas™, as part of a four-year PhD programme, which will reach a conclusion in 2001.
